What got me interested
in drag boat racing: |
We had a group of
friends with 5 or 6 hot boats back in the 70's that
terrorized the lakes in Southern Oregon when you
could get away with just about anything on the
water. In 1979 my kids were at the age to begin
playing youth league sports and I began coaching and
the boat stayed in the garage. After 2 summers of
only taking the boat out once or twice I sold it and
went on a 13 year coaching stint that kept me
involved year round with my 3 children. I always
hoped that some day when the kids were grown and
gone I'd find another boat and hit the lakes. In
1996 I found my Eliminator Sprint Jet, but law
enforcement had caught up with us "lake racers" and
the regulations immediately curtailed my fun. Then I
heard about this guy from Central Point named Lynn
Cortner. We went to Red Bluff in 1998 met Lynn &
Theo and the rest is history. My very first CDBA
race hooked me. I knew I'd found a home and an
outlet for my desire to race.

What I like most about
drag boat racing: |
Being able to spend
quality time with my wife, crew chief, and biggest
fan Debbie. The preparation, competition, and
something I'd never really considered when I started
this, the wonderful folks and great friends we've
made by being a part of Columbia Drag Boat
Association. Special thanks to Jim & Michelle
DeBoard, for all their help and companionship. They
are truly part of my family.
